GENETICS STUDY

genetics study

Do you have a child who has been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)?  Does your family have more than one individual with autism, Asperger syndrome or another Pervasive Developmental Disorder (PDD)?

Dr. Peter Szatmari, MD, FRCP(C), of the Offord Centre for Child Studies in Hamilton, Ontario, and Dr. Steve Scherer at The Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto are leading three separate studies in an attempt to find the genes that make a person susceptible to autism/PDD.

Participation involves parent interviews and various tests which the affected individuals, their unaffected siblings, parents and grandparents will be asked to complete.  The tests and interviews can be completed at one of four locations across Canada:

  • McMaster Children’s Hospital (Chedoke site) in Hamilton, ON
  • The Hospital for Sick Children, Toronto, ON
  • Memorial University Health Sciences Centre, St. John’s, NL
  • University of Alberta, Edmonton, AB

For more information on what you can expect, please read our detailed brochure.
