• Genuine Progress Index for Atlantic Canada (GPI Atlantic)
Comprehensive website of an indicators project developing an index of sustainable development and well-being. Many valuable items available on this site or which can be ordered from this site.

• Social Indicators: An Annotated Bibliography on Trends, Sources and Developments, 1960-1998
Site provides an extensive list of annotated sources (e.g., articles, books, etc.) concerning various aspects of social indicators. Sections of the bibliography include, “Theory of social indicators”, “Policy and social indicators”, “Quality of life”, etc.

• The Quality of Life in Ontario
A ‘quality of life’ index produced for Ontario and sponsored by the Ontario Social Development Council (www.osdc.org/). Several ‘QOL in Ontario’ reports available on this site.

• Canadian Institute of Child Health
Research and advocacy group in Ottawa, ON, which produces among other things the document, “The Health of Canada’s Children” (2000). This social report, now in its third edition, can be ordered from this site.

• Canadian Council on Social Development
A very rich website containing documents, statistics, policy papers, etc. CCSD also maintains a very useful social indicators site (www.ccsd.ca/soc_ind.html) which contains an extensive set of links to various social indicator projects across the world. CCSD also releases the annual social report, The Progress of Canada’s Children, which can be ordered from this site.

• Centre of Excellence for Early Child Development
This Centre is one of the ‘Centres of Excellence for Children’s Well-Being’ set up by Health Canada. The Early Child Development Centre’s website is still being developed, though it contains a number of useful items as it stands now. For example, see the ‘Encyclopedia’ link to a number of useful papers on such topics as ‘tobacco and pregnancy’, ‘stress and parental leave’, and ‘nutrition and pregnancy’.

• The Vanier Institute of the Family
Excellent site by this advocacy organization focusing on Canadian families. The Institute also disseminates information on families, and so this site contains various relevant basic statistics, papers, and other documents, some access to Transition magazine, and so on.

• Central West Health Planning Information Network (CWHPIN)
Range of resources available, including a large number of downloadable documents (e.g., “Outcome Indicators for Sexual Health/STD/HIV/AIDS in Centreal West Ontario”, “Evaluation of Cerebral Palsy”, etc.). Focus is on Central West Ontario (i.e., Hamilton, Brant, Haldimand, Norfolk, Niagara, Waterloo, and Wellington-Dufferin).
